About the position

The Maintenance Repair Worker 2 - Intermittent position at the Northwest Ohio Developmental Center involves performing skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks to ensure the proper functioning of facilities. This role is crucial in maintaining the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities by ensuring that the environment is safe and well-maintained. The worker will be responsible for a variety of tasks including plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, painting, and general maintenance. The position is classified as unclassified and is part of a bargaining unit, indicating that it is subject to union agreements. The job is part-time and does not offer benefits or raises for intermittent staff, but there is potential for the position to become permanent. The worker will perform maintenance and repair tasks on plumbing equipment, which includes water and steam lines, sewer pipes, faucets, toilets, and heating and air conditioning systems. Additionally, the role requires the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment such as light fixtures, outlets, motors, and emergency generators. The worker will also engage in carpentry work, which involves repairing and maintaining wooden structures, doors, and windows, as well as performing spot roof repairs and installing security devices. In addition to these responsibilities, the worker will assist in painting and minor masonry work, operate machine tools and welding equipment, and perform minor vehicle repairs. Interior custodial duties and exterior groundskeeping tasks, including snow and ice removal, are also part of the job. This position requires a commitment to maintaining a safe and functional environment for all individuals at the center, aligning with the mission of the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities to improve the quality of life for Ohioans with developmental disabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, replacement, minor installation & repair of plumbing equipment.
  • Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, replacement, minor installation & repair of electrical equipment.
  • Perform carpentry work involving skilled & semi-skilled maintenance, alteration &/or repair to buildings and wooden structures.
  • Assist in painting &/or perform minor painting of fixtures, rooms, buildings, signs & equipment.
  • Operate machine tools & welding equipment in making repairs to metal parts & equipment.
  • Assist in repair & maintenance of interior & exterior maintenance equipment and other specialized equipment.
  • Perform minor vehicle repairs & maintenance.
  • Perform interior custodial duties and exterior grounds keeping duties.

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic including addition & subtraction and in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
  • 6 months training or 6 months experience in maintenance repair work (e.g., basic electricity, plumbing, carpentry, masonry repair).
  • Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with machine learning and machinery operation.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance in maintenance work.
