About the position

The Maintenance Repair Worker 3 position at the State of Ohio involves serving as a lead worker, providing direction and training to inmates or other assigned staff in performing semi-skilled and skilled maintenance repair work. This includes a variety of tasks such as electrical work, carpentry, plumbing, and grounds keeping. The role requires performing maintenance and repair on equipment, including light fixtures, electrical outlets, and plumbing fixtures, as well as conducting routine inspections of buildings and equipment to identify needed repairs or replacements. The worker will also be responsible for preventive maintenance and operating machine tools and welding equipment for repairs. Additionally, the position includes custodial duties, snow and ice removal, and ensuring the secure maintenance of tools. The worker will also control inmate movement, conduct searches when necessary, and respond to emergencies, all while participating in meetings and training sessions.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as lead worker providing direction and training to inmates or assigned staff.
  • Perform semi-skilled and skilled maintenance repair work including electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and grounds keeping.
  • Conduct routine inspections of buildings and equipment for needed repairs or replacements.
  • Perform systematic and routine preventive maintenance of assigned areas.
  • Operate machine tools and welding equipment for repairs to metal parts and equipment.
  • Ensure secure maintenance of tools and complete tool counts and inventories.
  • Assist in related job crafts as required.
  • Control and restrict inmate movement to assigned areas.
  • Conduct searches of inmates when a breach of security is suspected.
  • Respond to emergencies and attend meetings and trainings.

Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic including addition & subtraction and in reading, writing & speaking common English vocabulary.
  • 12 months training or 12 months experience in maintenance repair including basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, and use of associated hand & power tools.
  • Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by Ohio revised code.
