About the position

As a Maintenance Repair Worker for the State of Indiana, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the functionality and safety of the National Guard Armory located in Indianapolis. This position involves performing a variety of cleaning, general maintenance, and minor repairs to the building, equipment, and grounds. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks, including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs. You will be responsible for checking the efficiency of heating, air conditioning, kitchen, laundry, and maintenance equipment, making necessary repairs as needed. Additionally, you will install various fixtures such as curtain rods, toilet paper holders, and plumbing fixtures, ensuring that all installations meet safety and operational standards. In this role, you will also be tasked with checking and repairing electrical appliances, motors, pumps, fire alarm systems, thermostats, and other essential equipment. Security is a priority, and you will be responsible for repairing locks, making keys, and ensuring the facility and property are secure. You will have the opportunity to assist skilled tradespeople on major projects, gaining valuable experience and knowledge in the maintenance field. Responsibilities

  • Perform cleaning, general maintenance, and minor repairs to building(s), equipment, and grounds.
  • Make routine carpentry, plumbing, and electrical repairs.
  • Check heating, air conditioning, kitchen, laundry, and maintenance equipment for efficiency and make necessary repairs.
  • Install curtain rods, toilet paper and toothbrush holders, tile, screens, window glass, doors, wiring and conduits, plumbing fixtures, and other varied items.
  • Check and repair electrical appliances, motors, pumps, fire alarm systems, thermostats, doorbells, and buzzers.
  • Repair locks, make keys, and provide secure facility and property.
  • Assist a skilled trades person on major projects.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of carpentry, masonry, plumbing, and electrical repairs.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions and handle simple mathematical problems.
  • Ability to determine malfunctions of electrical and mechanical equipment and make simple repairs.
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand schematics.
  • Ability to set tile, finish concrete and plaster, and do tuck pointing.
  • Willingness to travel with reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to use a wide variety of hand and power tools.
  • Must possess a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) or obtain within 90 days of employment.
