About the position

The Maintenance Repairer 1/2 position within the Office of Management and Finance is responsible for performing minor repairs and general maintenance on buildings, facilities, grounds, and light equipment. This role is essential for ensuring that all state agencies maintain a safe and functional environment. The position may be filled as either a Probational or Job Appointment, and the starting salary will depend on the education and experience of the selected applicant. The Maintenance Repairer may work on a variety of tasks, including but not limited to plumbing, carpentry, electrical, and mechanical repairs. The role requires close supervision from a Maintenance Foreman or higher-level administrator, and it does not involve supervising others. As a Maintenance Repairer, you will be expected to make minor repairs to the interior and exterior of buildings and facilities, maintain furniture and equipment, and perform basic maintenance on marine vessels. This includes tasks such as cleaning and replacing filters on air conditioning systems, maintaining small engines, and performing basic road maintenance. The position also involves working with a variety of tools and equipment, ensuring that all tasks are completed safely and efficiently. The Maintenance Repairer will be part of a team that supports the overall maintenance and repair needs of the state agencies, contributing to the effective operation of facilities and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Make minor repairs to the interior/exterior of buildings and facilities.
  • Maintain and make minor repairs to small lawn mowers, appliances, chainsaws, pumps, cars, and tractors.
  • Clean and replace filters on window air conditioners and simple central heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Start, operate, and check for safety and maintenance of a wide variety of small engines, lawn mowers, hand tools, pumps, chainsaws, pick up trucks, tractors, farm machinery, and implements.
  • Perform basic road maintenance by clearing drainage, spreading road surface material, filling pot holes, placement of signs, repairing fences, and removing trees.
  • Make minor repairs to navigational locks such as replacing hydraulic hoses.
  • Perform minor repairs on marine vessels and general maintenance on all marine facilities.
  • Participate in the painting, pipefitting, carpentry, sand blasting, and electrical repair of marine vessels and related equipment.

Requirements

  • One year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant.
  • Training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or parks building and grounds work will substitute for the required experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with marine maintenance and repair.
