About the position

The Maintenance Repairer 2 position is located at the Acadiana Center for Youth in Bunkie, Louisiana, and is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks on buildings, facilities, and equipment. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of building construction trades and maintenance practices, as the individual will be involved in both general maintenance and specialized repair work. The Maintenance Repairer 2 will be expected to make general repairs to buildings, including interiors and exteriors, as well as furniture and fixtures. Additionally, the role involves maintaining and repairing mechanical systems such as air conditioning and heating systems, plumbing, and electrical fixtures. In this position, the Maintenance Repairer 2 will also be responsible for the upkeep of motorized equipment, performing tune-ups, and replacing or adjusting worn or damaged parts. The individual will need to conduct limited disassembly of major components to assess damage and determine necessary repairs. Furthermore, the role includes performing minor repairs on navigational locks and appliances, ensuring that all equipment is safe and operational. The Maintenance Repairer 2 may also be involved in general road maintenance tasks and will be expected to operate a variety of hand-held equipment and motorized vehicles. As a Marine Maintenance Repairer, the individual will perform both minor and major repairs on marine vessels and facilities, which includes tasks such as painting, pipefitting, and electrical repairs. The Maintenance Repairer 2 will also be responsible for estimating labor and materials needed for repairs and may oversee the work of subordinate repairers and Trades Helpers when assigned. This position requires a proactive approach to maintenance and repair, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard.

Responsibilities

  • Make general repairs to buildings, interiors, exteriors, furniture, fixtures, and mechanical systems.
  • Maintain and repair a variety of motorized equipment, including tune-ups and replacement of worn or damaged parts.
  • Perform minor repairs to navigational locks and appliances.
  • Start, operate, and check for safety and maintenance of various hand-held equipment and motorized vehicles.
  • Perform general road maintenance tasks.
  • Participate in painting, pipefitting, carpentry, and electrical repair of marine vessels and related equipment.
  • Estimate labor and materials necessary for repairs.
  • Oversee work of subordinate repairers and Trades Helpers when assigned.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in building construction trades, building maintenance, or maintenance/repair of mechanical equipment.
  • Training in building construction trades or maintenance can substitute for required experience.
