About the position

The Maintenance Repairer 2 position at Grambling State University involves a variety of responsibilities focused on the repair and maintenance of buildings, facilities, and equipment. This role is essential for ensuring that all state agency facilities are in good working order and safe for use. The Maintenance Repairer 2 will perform general maintenance functions on marine vessels and other related facilities, which includes making repairs to plumbing, electrical systems, and mechanical equipment. The position requires a hands-on approach to maintenance tasks, with a focus on both minor and major repairs across a broad spectrum of trades functions. In this role, the Maintenance Repairer 2 will be expected to make general repairs to buildings, including interiors and exteriors, as well as furniture and fixtures. The individual will also maintain and repair various motorized equipment, performing tasks such as tune-ups and the replacement of worn or damaged parts. Additionally, the position involves making minor repairs to navigational locks and appliances, ensuring that all equipment is safe and operational. The Maintenance Repairer 2 will also be responsible for overseeing the work of subordinate repairers and Trades Helpers when assigned. This includes estimating labor and materials necessary for repairs and requisitioning supplies as needed. The role requires a proactive approach to maintenance, with the ability to operate and check the safety of a wide variety of hand-held equipment and motorized vehicles. Overall, this position plays a critical role in maintaining the functionality and safety of state facilities and equipment, contributing to the overall mission of public service in Louisiana.

Responsibilities

  • Make general repairs to buildings, interiors, exteriors, furniture, fixtures, and air conditioning/heating systems.
  • Maintain and repair a variety of motorized equipment, including tune-ups and replacement of worn or damaged parts.
  • Perform minor repairs to navigational locks and appliances, including replacing parts and making adjustments.
  • Start, operate, and check for safety and maintenance of various hand-held equipment and motorized vehicles.
  • Perform general road maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Participate in painting, pipefitting, carpentry, and electrical repair of marine vessels and related equipment.
  • Requisition supplies and materials as needed for repairs.
  • Estimate labor and materials necessary to accomplish repairs.
  • Oversee work of subordinate repairers and Trades Helpers when assigned to assist in repair work.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in building construction trades, building maintenance, or maintenance/repair of mechanical equipment.
  • Training in building construction trades or maintenance can substitute for required experience, credited in six-month increments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with marine maintenance and repair.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and controls.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and procedures in maintenance work.
