About the position

As a Maintenance Shift Engineer at thyssenkrupp Crankshaft Co LLC, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our production facilities in Danville, Illinois. Your primary responsibilities will include planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and controlling maintenance activities to minimize downtime and enhance productivity. You will work closely with production associates, maintenance technicians, and supervisors to diagnose machine operation variations and address equipment problems effectively. This position requires a proactive approach to managing work orders and maintaining our preventative maintenance management system, ensuring it is always up to date. In this role, you will support and guide troubleshooting and repair efforts for complex equipment, including automated machines, robotics, controls, panels, relays, circuit breakers, communication systems, and drives. You will be responsible for diagnosing problems, replacing or repairing parts, and detecting and replacing defective components as necessary. Additionally, you will develop A3 root cause analysis reports to address excessive downtime and interpret blueprints, drawings, sketches, or schematics to instruct and train maintenance technicians in best practices and procedures. You will also be expected to drive 5S results and performance, ensuring that the work area is organized according to 5S standards at the end of each shift. Participation in projects aimed at improving processes and reducing downtime will be a key aspect of your responsibilities, making this a dynamic and impactful position within our organization.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, direct, coordinate and control maintenance activities.
  • Prioritize and coordinate members of maintenance staff for work on down machines.
  • Work directly with production associates, maintenance technicians, and supervisors to diagnose machine operation variations and equipment problems.
  • Manage work order and preventative maintenance management system, keeping it updated.
  • Support and guide troubleshooting and repairing of complex equipment including automated machines, robotics, controls, panels, relays, circuit breakers, communication systems and drives.
  • Diagnose problems, replace or repair parts, and detect and replace defective components when necessary.
  • Develop A3 root cause analysis reports for excessive downtime.
  • Interpret and work from blueprints, drawings, sketches or schematics, and instruct and train maintenance technicians in methods and procedures.
  • Drive 5S results and performance, ensuring area organization at end of shift according to 5S standards, and participate in projects to improve processes and reduce downtime.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics or Mechatronic Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering Technology, or closely related field of study, or foreign equivalent degree.
  • 2 years of experience in a Maintenance Specialist, Maintenance Engineer, or Maintenance Supervisor position or in a related maintenance engineering role.
  • Must have 2 years of work experience in conducting troubleshooting of mechanics and fluid power to return automotive component manufacturing equipment back to production.
  • Experience supporting and guiding troubleshooting for repair of complex automotive component manufacturing equipment, including automated machines, robotics, controls, panels, relays, circuit breakers, and communication systems; directing technical aspects of repair work.
  • Experience developing and implementing preventative maintenance plans on industrial equipment used to manufacture automotive components.
  • Experience performing Lean analysis using Lean tools to determine root cause of repeated equipment failures and provide recommendations for improvement.
