About the position

The Maintenance Staff position at the YMCA of Southwest Florida is a part-time role primarily based at the Palmer Ranch Branch, with the expectation to assist at the Sarasota Branch as needed. This position is crucial for ensuring the upkeep and functionality of YMCA buildings and facilities. The staff member will perform routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on various properties, including mechanical equipment. The role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, from minor repairs to major renovations, ensuring that all facilities are safe, functional, and welcoming for members and staff alike. Key responsibilities include performing repairs on buildings and equipment, such as replacing broken windows, repairing doors and locks, and installing window blinds. The staff member will also be responsible for installing and repairing plumbing fixtures, including toilets, sinks, and urinals, as well as electrical wiring and lighting fixtures. Responding to emergency maintenance requests is a critical aspect of the job, as is assisting with renovation and remodeling projects, which may involve repairing plaster and drywall and conducting interior and exterior painting. In addition to these tasks, the Maintenance Staff will uphold safety requirements and cleaning protocols throughout the day, conduct routine inspections of grounds and buildings, and initiate repairs as needed. The position requires a proactive approach to maintenance and a commitment to ensuring a safe and clean environment for all YMCA members and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform minor and major repair of all buildings and equipment.
  • Replace broken windows; repair doors and door locks; install window blinds.
  • Install flooring of all types.
  • Install and repair plumbing fixtures including toilets, sinks, and urinals.
  • Install electrical wiring and equipment; replace and repair lighting fixtures and ballast.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests as required.
  • Assist with the renovation/remodeling of buildings; repair plaster and drywall; interior and exterior painting.
  • Uphold all staff safety requirements including cleaning protocols throughout the day.
  • Inspect and perform minor repairs and preventative maintenance to HVAC systems and equipment.
  • Conduct routine grounds and building inspections and initiate repairs as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of responsible experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Good skill in the use of hand and power tools.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, carpentry, and other maintenance related areas.
  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write simple correspondence.
  • Successfully complete State of Florida Criminal History Background Check requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPR and First Aid Certifications required.
  • Annual Completion of YMCA Blood Borne Pathogens Training.
  • Annual Completion of YMCA Child Sexual Abuse Prevention class.
