About the position

The Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for overseeing maintenance operations within a facility, ensuring that all equipment and systems are functioning optimally. This role involves supervising a team of workers engaged in various maintenance tasks, including structural repairs, mechanical equipment servicing, and utility system maintenance. The superintendent will also be involved in project management related to construction and modifications of buildings, while establishing preventive maintenance programs and training staff on proper operational procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises workers engaged in major painting projects and structural repairs.
  • Maintains and repairs building utility systems such as electrical wiring and controls, heating, and ventilating systems.
  • Supervises installation, servicing, and repair of mechanical equipment.
  • Utilizes knowledge of electrical systems, plumbing, welding, and other technical skills to maintain plant equipment.
  • Inspects completed work for conformance to blueprints, specifications, and standards.
  • Prepares work schedules and makes work assignments to subordinates.
  • Interprets and enforces company policy to employees.
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists employees in solving work problems.
  • Works on projects involving the construction of new buildings and facilities and modifications of existing ones.
  • Maintains production equipment to meet organizational standards and minimize downtime.
  • Establishes and maintains preventive maintenance programs and procedures.
  • Administers training programs for proper operations and maintenance procedures.
  • May direct workers engaged in ground maintenance activities and supervise custodial services.

Requirements

  • 4 years experience in poultry maintenance or food manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with further processing equipment.
  • Working knowledge of refrigeration.
  • Working knowledge of PLCs.
  • Working knowledge of electrical systems, both control and industrial wiring.
  • Proficient in pipe fitting, plumbing, welding, shop machinery, sheet metal, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical controls, and instrumentation.
  • Capable of becoming Haz-Mat team qualified.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good computer skills.
  • Highly motivated and a self-starter.

Nice-to-haves

  • College degree preferred.
