About the position

The Maintenance Supervisor 1 - Grounds position at UConn's Facilities Operations Department is responsible for overseeing a team of skilled workers in grounds maintenance. This permanent, full-time role involves coordinating daily work assignments, supervising snow and ice removal operations, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The supervisor will also engage in administrative tasks, provide training, and maintain effective communication with staff and management.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a crew of skilled trade workers and skilled workers in grounds maintenance.
  • Coordinate daily work assignments for Skilled Maintainer and General Trades Worker employees.
  • Schedule and assign work to staff through AiM, estimating labor and material for jobs including writing quotes.
  • Provide information to supervisors and managers on the progress of jobs in the shop.
  • Assist employees with troubleshooting work and resolving issues.
  • Monitor the progress of job assignments through completion.
  • Assist with planning and preparation for large events such as Commencement and snow/weather events.
  • Review and approve timesheets in CORE-CT and complete overtime equalization rosters.
  • Complete administrative computer work and paperwork as required.
  • Provide additional supervisory support to the MS2 - Utilities when needed.

Requirements

  • Five (5) years of experience in grounds maintenance.
  • Three (3) years of General Experience must have been performing skilled tasks in grounds care.
  • Possess a current CDL and retain it throughout employment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ten years of experience in a variety of grounds care work and maintenance.
  • Demonstrated experience in all aspects of snow and ice removal job duties and requirements.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Experience using computer software such as AiM, HuskyBuy, Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and/or Kuali Financial System (KFS).
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of computerized maintenance management software (CMMS).
  • Extensive knowledge of the management and removal of regulated materials including asbestos, mold, lead and PCBs.
