About the position

The Maintenance Supervisor at Morton Salt, Inc. is responsible for leading the Maintenance Department within a fast-paced manufacturing facility. This role involves planning and directing maintenance and preventive maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, and overseeing the performance of maintenance staff. The supervisor will also manage maintenance operations, coordinate with production departments, and implement best practices to enhance operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and health regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and mitigate risks.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive preventive maintenance program.
  • Support production department goals and maintain strong production-maintenance coordination.
  • Monitor maintenance staff performance and ensure accurate reporting of hours against work orders.
  • Maintain facility buildings, grounds, utilities, and equipment.
  • Oversee salt storage, solar salt screening, rock salt bagging, and site maintenance.
  • Handle special projects as assigned.
  • Coordinate services, materials, and vendors for maintenance work.
  • Arrange for rental equipment when necessary.
  • Maintain an inventory of spare parts and tools in coordination with the Storeroom Administrator.
  • Utilize SAP and management tools for maintenance program management.
  • Directly involved in hiring, training, and disciplinary actions for maintenance staff.
  • Enforce facility attendance policies.
  • Ensure timely and effective completion of maintenance activities to minimize downtime.
  • Manage maintenance budget, track expenditures, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Prepare reports on maintenance performance, costs, and equipment reliability.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and implement best practices.
  • Foster a culture of respect, inclusion, cooperation, and responsibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field (preferred) or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience as a Maintenance Supervisor in an industrial environment, preferably in manufacturing or salt processing.
  • 3-5 years of maintenance supervision experience in a manufacturing and packaging operation (preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Background knowledge in preventive maintenance and maintenance procedures.
  • Proficient in using maintenance management software and tools (e.g., SAP).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and team management skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Experience in a union environment (preferred).
  • Computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to handle a high-stress environment and effectively multitask.
