About the position

The Maintenance Supervisor at the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) is responsible for overseeing maintenance-related and capital improvement activities within assigned facilities and grounds. This role involves planning and delegating work schedules, managing resources, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and leading a team to maintain high-quality standards in facility operations. The position also includes responsibilities for budgeting, procurement, and staff development, contributing to the overall efficiency and safety of INDOT's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and delegate daily and weekly work schedules based on priorities and deadlines.
  • Manage all maintenance-related and capital improvement activities within assigned facilities and grounds.
  • Establish schedules and methods for providing facility and maintenance services, identifying resource needs and allocating resources accordingly.
  • Assign and delegate work to subordinates, spot checking routine work and reviewing complex projects.
  • Maintain operational systems for monitoring and tracking work orders, preventative maintenance logs, and safety reports.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and quality standards during work activities.
  • Regularly inspect property for safety and security concerns and ensure proper use of safety equipment by staff.
  • Forecast and prepare maintenance operating budgets, ensuring compliance with budgetary parameters.
  • Order, prepare specifications, and purchase supplies, equipment, and contract work according to required procedures.
  • Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees, providing opportunities for professional development.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).
  • Five (5) years' experience in maintenance, construction, or related experience; minimum two (2) years' supervisory experience in these areas.
  • Advanced knowledge of trades related to installation, inspection, repair, and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, and other systems.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary for assigned duties.
  • Ability to interpret detailed plans and specifications and make long-range plans for maintenance.
