About the position

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on campus buildings, facilities, equipment, and machinery at Indiana University. This role involves diagnosing problems, determining corrective solutions, and executing repairs across various systems including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and structural components. The technician will also maintain inventory of parts and supplies, assist in emergency response, and may lead other maintenance staff on projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair work on campus buildings and facilities.
• Assemble, install, and repair wiring, electrical components, plumbing systems, and HVAC systems.
• Diagnose problems and determine corrective solutions based on building codes and repair manuals.
• Repair or replace defective equipment parts using hand and power tools.
• Maintain parts, supplies, and equipment, advising supervisors when supplies need to be ordered.
• Drive University vehicles as needed and assist with snow removal activities.
• Work any shift as needed, including participation in a 24-hour emergency response rotation.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (HSED or GED).
• 5 years of verifiable journey-level experience or a certificate in a DOL apprenticed trade (electrical/plumbing/HVAC/carpentry).
• Possess a valid driver's license and ability to be insured by Indiana University.
