About the position

The Maintenance Technician - Electrical position at Clayton County Public Schools involves performing skilled repair, installation, and preventative maintenance on all high and low voltage electrical equipment within district buildings. The technician will be responsible for ensuring that all electrical systems are functioning properly and safely, adhering to standard electrical codes and safety procedures. This role requires a proactive approach to diagnosing electrical malfunctions and implementing effective solutions. The technician will also be expected to maintain accurate records of repairs and installations, utilizing various computer applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and Google for processing paperwork electronically. In addition to technical skills, the position demands a strong sense of responsibility for all assigned parts, tools, and vehicles. The technician will work both inside and outside of district buildings, which may involve exposure to various weather conditions. The role includes performing preventative maintenance on various equipment and fixtures, ensuring that all electrical systems are up to code and functioning efficiently. The technician will also assist with emergency assignments as needed, demonstrating flexibility and a commitment to the operational needs of the district. The position reports directly to the Electrical Supervisor and requires effective communication with both internal and external personnel. The technician will be expected to provide training and guidance to apprentices, fostering a collaborative work environment. This role may require being on call after normal work hours, emphasizing the need for reliability and readiness to respond to emergencies at any time.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all electrical repairs and installations using standard electrical codes and appropriate safety procedures.
  • Accurately diagnoses all electrical malfunctions.
  • Performs preventative maintenance as required on various equipment and fixtures inside and outside of all district buildings.
  • Assumes responsibility for all parts, tools, and vehicles assigned; have ready access to all equipment issued.
  • Utilizes electric screwdrivers, conduit bender, small drills, small soldering irons, voltage meters, and any other equipment/machinery relevant to repairs and installations.
  • Assists with District and emergency and/or general assignments as operationally necessary.
  • Completes all other duties as assigned and required to perform the above services.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required; trade specific certificate preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years verifiable experience required.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license; CDL preferred; electrical certificate preferred.
  • Ability to make repair decisions which impact the schools/buildings within the district.
  • Ability to make decisions and recommendations under the guidance of Electrical Supervisor.
  • Requires contact with internal and external personnel of influence and decision-making responsibility to discuss issues of importance.
  • Provides training and guidance to apprentices.
  • Familiarity with computer applications preferred.

Nice-to-haves
