About the position

The Maintenance Mechanic - Locksmith is a vital role responsible for ensuring the security and functionality of various commercial and industrial properties through the installation, repair, and maintenance of locks and security systems. This position requires a skilled technician who is adept at working with both mechanical and electronic locks, as well as access control systems. The locksmith will be tasked with a variety of duties that include not only the physical installation and repair of locks but also the management of key systems and customer interactions. In this role, the technician will install, repair, and replace locks on a wide range of structures, including doors, windows, safes, and cabinets. This includes working with mechanical locks, electronic locks, keyless entry systems, and combination locks. The locksmith will also be responsible for cutting and duplicating keys with precision, ensuring compatibility with different lock models. Additionally, the technician will handle rekeying tasks, which involve changing the internal components of locks to render existing keys inoperable, and will create master key systems for properties that require multiple levels of access. Emergency situations are a critical aspect of this role, as the locksmith will provide lockout services and respond to emergencies where individuals may be locked out of their homes, vehicles, or businesses. This requires not only technical skills but also the ability to troubleshoot and utilize tools effectively to gain entry without causing damage. Maintaining an organized inventory of keys, locks, and equipment is essential, as is keeping accurate records of key cutting, duplication, and distribution activities. Customer service is a key component of this position, as the locksmith will interact with clients, providing assistance and guidance on security options and best practices. Adherence to relevant laws and ethical standards is paramount, ensuring confidentiality and the use of non-destructive entry techniques. Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of vocational or technical training in locksmithing or related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience as a Locksmith, preferably in residential, commercial, or institutional settings.
  • Strong knowledge of various lock types, key systems, hardware, and security systems.
  • Proficiency in lock installation, repair, and maintenance techniques.
  • Ability to cut and duplicate keys accurately using specialized equipment.
  • Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • Good understanding of locksmithing ethics, confidentiality, and safety practices.
