About the position

Ensure that the mechanical aspects of the production line are in order. To make changeovers as directed. To repair any breakdowns or machinery malfunctions as quickly as possible. Perform the preventive maintenance duties regarding the production equipment. Repairs and maintains mechanical and hydraulic components of production machines and equipment such as metal fabricating machine tools, material handling system, and automated lubrication system.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with food safety, food security, Quality, GMP's, HAACP, Allergen, and Sensitizer regulations.
  • Be certified in the operations of all machinery in the area of responsibility.
  • Ensure the quality and integrity of the product run on the lines based on specifications.
  • Communicate all safety and good manufacturing practices in accordance with company policy.
  • Turn on production apparatus such as pasteurizers and hot melt systems at the beginning of production shifts.
  • Walk the line to note any equipment problems and ensure they get fixed ASAP.
  • Tag equipment removed from the line for repair with necessary information.
  • Report and charge all parts taken from inventory to the line.
  • Perform daily PMs even if the line runs around the clock.
  • Set up the line as directed and check out line set-up from the previous night.
  • Troubleshoot and repair breakdowns as they occur.
  • Visually inspect and listen to machines to locate causes of malfunctions.
  • Dismantle machines to gain access to problem areas.
  • Inspect and measure parts to detect wear or misalignment.
  • Remove and replace worn or defective parts of drive mechanisms or hydraulic systems.
  • Realign and adjust components such as spindles and clutches.
  • Locate damaged air and hydraulic pipes and install new pipes.
  • Test operation of machines following repairs.
  • Repair broken parts and operate metalworking tools to make or repair parts.
  • Assist engineering to modify designs of machine components.
  • Perform line changeovers during and after production as directed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance as assigned and sign off on PM work orders.
  • Notify Production Supervisor/Manager when repair parts are needed.
  • Troubleshoot basic electrical systems.
  • Keep maintenance, boiler, compressor, and cooling tower rooms neat and in order.

Requirements

  • High School diploma and/or GED.
  • Two to Four years maintenance experience, preferably in a Food Processing plant.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read, write and speak English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and team player attitude.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience necessary.
  • Ability to operate machinery preferred.
  • Bilingual a plus.
  • Computer literate with MS Office.
  • High level of personal drive to succeed.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
