About the position

The Maintenance Technician at Proliant Dairy Ingredients is responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective operation of all plant equipment and machinery. This role involves performing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues, and assisting in the construction of production and building facilities. The technician will work primarily on the night shift and is expected to support continuous improvement in production processes while adhering to safety protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks on all types of production equipment.
  • Comply with the company's safety programs, policies, and expectations.
  • Examine parts for defects such as breakage and excessive wear.
  • Reassemble equipment after completion of inspections, testing, or repairs.
  • Clean, lubricate, and adjust parts, equipment, and machinery.
  • Record repairs and maintenance performed and parts used, ordering new parts as necessary.
  • Ensure operation of machinery by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, and production machines.
  • Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Remove defective parts by dismantling devices using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools.
  • Control downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive maintenance techniques.
  • Process work orders as assigned, prioritizing needs according to overall effect on plant operations.
  • Maintain and repair pumps, valves, and motors as required for plant operation.
  • Assist in maintaining safe conditions of facility and grounds, including snow and ice removal.
  • Operate lifts, industrial trucks, and non-motorized pallet jacks as required.
  • Assist in ensuring fundamental food safety and quality practices are maintained.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing power transfer devices, pumps, valves, and gearboxes on assembly line and/or process equipment.
  • Experience with electrical assembly and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Experience with pneumatic system maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Experience with air handling equipment maintenance.
  • Experience with welding and fabrication of mild and stainless steel.
  • Electrical knowledge ranging from 110 Volts to 480 Volts (3 phase).
  • Ability to operate industrial equipment such as hand wrenches, welders, and power tools.
  • Ability to utilize basic math skills for various calculations.
  • Ability to read and record data from various gauges.
  • Analytical ability related to complex information and problem solving.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with MDARD, SQF, and/or USDA preferred.
  • Ability to understand wire diagrams, construction plans, and diagrams.
  • Knowledge of organizational methods and ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously.
