About the position

The Maintenance Technician Senior position within the Housing and Community Development (HCD) division of the City of Boise is responsible for performing high-level remodeling and maintenance work for the city's affordable housing program. This role involves troubleshooting technical issues, preparing rental units for new tenants, and ensuring compliance with housing guidelines. The technician will also manage vendor relationships, coordinate maintenance tasks, and maintain the cleanliness and safety of housing facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-level repairs and remodeling work for affordable housing units.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems with housing units and prepare them for new tenants.
  • Assess maintenance needs and ensure compliance with HUD Section 8 guidelines and the Fair Housing Act.
  • Purchase and order inventory supplies as needed.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and process work orders on rental properties.
  • Manage vendors during unit turn processes to meet deadlines.
  • Respond to tenant requests and explain policies and procedures for maintenance requests.
  • Coordinate, track, schedule, and maintain equipment tools.
  • Maintain and clean exterior grounds and parking lots, including snow removal in winter.
  • Operate and repair HVAC systems, water heaters, and other mechanical systems.
  • Perform fire safety activities, including testing and maintenance of fire extinguishers and emergency signage.
  • Organize and update Materials Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) information.
  • Delegate tasks and set deadlines for the assigned team, providing guidance and support.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 4 years of experience in general building maintenance, including cleaning, painting, and minor electrical or plumbing work.
  • Knowledge of building and grounds maintenance practices and procedures.
  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools and perform work independently.
  • Effective communication skills in English for job performance.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license.

Nice-to-haves

  • 6 years of experience in building maintenance or commercial custodial work.
  • Bilingual skills.
  • Experience as a Lead Abatement worker or Asbestos Abatement supervisor.
