About the position

The Maintenance Technician at Victory Christian Academy is responsible for ensuring the proper functioning, safety, and aesthetic quality of the school's physical facilities. This part-time role involves performing a variety of maintenance tasks related to the repair and improvement of the school's buildings, grounds, and equipment, requiring skills in plumbing, electrical work, HVAC, carpentry, and general maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Perform building maintenance and repairs
  • Conduct regular inspections of school facilities to identify and address maintenance needs
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities comply with school policies, safety regulations, and building codes
  • Coordinate and/or execute the performance of general repairs, routine maintenance and preventative maintenance, including but not limited to electrical, HVAC, painting, carpentry, locks, doors, refrigeration, plumbing, etc.
  • Install, maintain, and repair school equipment and fixtures
  • Maintain current boiler license if applicable
  • Work closely with school administrators, teachers, and staff to understand and address their maintenance needs
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and resolve issues efficiently
  • Communicate with cleaning staff and/or cleaning contractors when necessary
  • Schedule preventative maintenance
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs
  • Maintain an inventory of tools, supplies, and materials necessary for maintenance tasks
  • Inspect and maintain playground equipment to ensure safety and functionality
  • Maintain the school's exterior grounds, including lawn care, landscaping, snow removal, and general cleanliness
  • Perform Fire/Tornado Drills
  • Attend school-sponsored evening events as necessary
  • Assist in setting up school events, assemblies, and special activities
  • Coordinate with outside contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and projects
  • Be available for on-call services and needs
  • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in building maintenance or a related field
  • Proficiency in a variety of maintenance and repair tasks including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Good physical condition and ability to lift heavy objects, climb ladders, and perform physical tasks
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and compliance requirements
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Mature judgment and emotional stability
  • Enthusiasm for working with children and the educational profession
  • Sensitivity to and an understanding of all children and adults of varying sentiments
  • Professional and Apostolic attire, communication and demeanor
  • Good physical and mental health
  • Creative imagination and resourcefulness
  • Good organizational skills

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in HVAC, electrical, or plumbing
  • Previous experience in a school or educational environment
  • Knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
