About the position

The Maintenance Technician at Valley Oasis is responsible for overseeing the daily maintenance operations of the property and buildings. This role requires a proactive approach to managing maintenance tasks, including preparing a weekly maintenance schedule and allocating work orders as they come in. The technician will maintain all inventory and equipment, ensuring proper storage and compliance with health and safety regulations. Daily activities include completing a daily activity sheet with tasks accomplished, responding to work emails, and conducting inspections of facilities to identify and resolve issues. The technician will also monitor and procure expenses, manage relationships with community vendors, and take immediate corrective action on life/safety issues identified during property inspections. In addition to routine maintenance, the technician will perform a full range of skilled building maintenance tasks, including carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, heating, air conditioning, and mechanical repairs. Responsibilities also include preventative maintenance on buildings, repairing electrical systems, and performing advanced plumbing work. The technician will be responsible for the procurement of materials needed for maintenance tasks and may supervise volunteer maintenance workers. Attendance at agency meetings and training sessions is also required, along with adherence to agency policies and procedures, including confidentiality and child abuse reporting. The ideal candidate will possess advanced knowledge of general maintenance procedures and techniques, as well as the ability to operate various tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair work. The role requires a high level of personal organization, the ability to maintain a supportive and professional attitude, and the capacity to work effectively under limited supervision and in high-stress situations. The technician must also be able to lift heavy objects and respond to emergency situations to ensure the safety of all residents.

Responsibilities

  • Run the daily maintenance operations of the property and buildings
  • Prepare a weekly maintenance schedule and allocate work orders as they come in
  • Maintain all inventory and equipment, and ensure proper storage
  • Complete a daily activity sheet with completed tasks
  • Review and respond to work emails throughout the workday
  • Comply with all health and safety regulations and practices on agency sites
  • Carry out inspections of the facilities to identify and resolve issues
  • Monitor & procure expenses
  • Manage and maintain relationships with community vendors
  • Inspect property and buildings for life/safety issues and take immediate corrective action
  • Identify building maintenance needs and prioritize work schedule
  • Be a self-starter and work independently in the absence of supervision
  • Perform a full range of skilled building maintenance for extended periods of time
  • Maintain a safe, clean and organized work area and shop
  • Establish and maintain professional and cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
  • Perform preventative maintenance on buildings including carpentry, electrical, painting, plastering, drywalling, plumbing, heating, air conditioning and mechanical repair work
  • Repair electrical switches, outlets, lighting systems and fixtures
  • Perform advanced level plumbing work including installation, repair and replacement of plumbing fixtures
  • Inspect building facilities to identify building maintenance needs; complete inspection and preventative maintenance reports, recommend, prioritize and perform corrective maintenance as required
  • Install, maintain and repair a variety of mechanical tools and equipment such as power saws, drills, air compressors, and various hand tools required for maintenance skills
  • Responsible for procurement of all materials needed
  • Traveling from site to site
  • Supervise and guide volunteer maintenance workers
  • Attend agency and program meetings
  • Attend trainings and continuing education activities as assigned
  • Adhere to agency policies and procedures including confidentiality, child abuse reporting, and code of ethics

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Three years' experience in facilities maintenance
  • Experience in a residential facility setting strongly preferred
  • Experience working with an agency that provides trauma services
  • Must have a valid California Driver's License
  • Reliable transportation
  • Auto Insurance
  • Clean driving record
  • Advanced knowledge of general maintenance procedures and techniques
  • Knowledge of tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair work
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance requirements and practices
  • Knowledge of electrical, mechanical systems, plumbing, carpentry, etc.
  • Ability to lift 25+ pounds above the waist and carry heavy objects
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and oral
  • Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office software programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
