About the position

The Maintenance Technician at Ryerson is responsible for the maintenance and repair of plant equipment, ensuring efficient operation and safety within the facility. This role involves working with various maintenance programs and systems, as well as training operators on maintenance tasks. The position is critical for minimizing downtime and maintaining a safe work environment.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain plant equipment efficiently on a daily basis, including processing equipment, material handling equipment, overhead cranes, and building repairs.
• Promote and demonstrate a safe work environment.
• Comply with maintenance schedules and complete preventive maintenance programs.
• Train and supervise operators on daily maintenance tasks for equipment.
• React urgently to unscheduled breakdowns to eliminate machine downtime.
• Coordinate outside maintenance services as required.
• Order parts as necessary to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently.
• Perform all other duties as assigned, with responsibilities subject to change.

Requirements

• Successfully pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
• Minimum 3-5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing facility, preferably in steel processing.
• Knowledge of coil processing equipment (cut-to-length & slitters).
• Knowledge of OSHA requirements regarding equipment.
• Proficient with PLCs, electrical, mechanical, air, hydraulics, and blueprints.
• Experience with preventive maintenance programs.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage changing priorities and multiple tasks.
• Physical ability to pass physical requirements exam for vision, hearing, and mobility.
• Successful candidates will be enrolled in a registered apprenticeship program as part of their onboarding.
