Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the Facilities Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the University building systems, appliances, and infrastructure. This includes inspecting, testing, repairing, installing, and modifying components in and around buildings. The Facilities Maintenance Technician will prioritize safety and communication in their work and must have a working knowledge of all electrical safety regulations. The role requires performing various repair tasks and ensuring that all work is completed efficiently and effectively. The technician will be expected to work independently with minimal supervision, analyze problems, and make necessary repairs. A working knowledge of carpentry, general repairs, plumbing, and electrical systems in a commercial building setting is essential. Additionally, familiarity with locks and keys is a plus. The technician will also be responsible for repairing and painting drywall in residence halls, utilizing computer or mobile applications for work documentation, and ensuring the proper maintenance and safeguarding of materials and tools against theft or vandalism. The Facilities Maintenance Technician will complete required documentation of repairs and service information through the campus work order system and communicate any hazards or risks that require immediate attention to management. They will ensure an adequate inventory of necessary supplies and parts, calibrate equipment to provided specifications, and drive utility vehicles to and from work sites. Participation in the on-call rotation and responding to calls after hours is also a requirement. Effective communication with both internal and external constituents in a collaborative environment is crucial, as is the ability to schedule and manage outside vendors when necessary. The technician will prepare and maintain reports and updates to management and complete additional duties as assigned.
