About the position

As a Maintenance Technician at Metropolitan Ministries, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the functionality and safety of our facilities. Your primary responsibilities will include installing, maintaining, and repairing various systems such as plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. You will be tasked with performing mechanical tasks and conducting comprehensive preventative and predictive maintenance programs. This position is vital to the mission of Metropolitan Ministries, which focuses on transforming the lives of homeless and at-risk individuals in the Tampa Bay area. In this role, you will operate a variety of tools associated with the trade, including small trenchers, pipe cutters, and soldering torches. You will also be responsible for configuring, installing, and maintaining both manual and electric irrigation systems, as well as troubleshooting and repairing underground piping and electrical systems. Your work will directly contribute to the upkeep of our facilities, ensuring that they remain safe and welcoming for the families we serve. Additionally, you will be expected to perform a range of maintenance tasks, including carpentry, floor repairs, and landscaping efforts. You will also support special events and assist with the relocation of appliances and furniture as needed. Your commitment to the mission of Metropolitan Ministries will be essential as you work collaboratively with your team to achieve organizational goals and support the community we serve.

Responsibilities

  • Install, maintain, and repair pipes, fixtures, and other apparatuses of water, heating, gas, and sewage systems.
  • Perform various mechanical tasks and conduct comprehensive preventative/predictive maintenance programs.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and enhance the building in accordance with the mission statement of Metropolitan Ministries.
  • Operate tools associated with trade, including small trenchers, pipe cutters, and soldering torches.
  • Configure, install, repair, and maintain manual and electric irrigation systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair underground piping, electric and manual valves, and electrical and computerized timing clocks.
  • Maintain and repair electric and gas hot water heaters, water softeners, and filtration systems.
  • Perform carpentry, HVAC, and building structure repairs.
  • Support the Holiday Center and other Ministry events as directed.
  • Attend required training courses and continuing education events.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED completed.
  • Minimum of two years in general maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in mechanical systems, blueprints, and tools associated with trade.
  • Valid Florida Driver's license and ability to operate a motor vehicle weighing up to 2.5 tons.
  • Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary framework and be computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Effective communication skills in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated heart for the ministry of serving poor and homeless families.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with HVAC systems and air handlers.
  • Familiarity with landscaping and special event organizing.
