About the position

The Maintenance Technician at Centers for Independence (CFI) is a vital role that encompasses both proactive and reactive maintenance responsibilities for our facilities, staff, and clients. This position requires a practical mindset and a keen attention to detail, as the technician will be responsible for executing preventive maintenance and performing manual repairs and projects as necessary. The technician will assess building components and repair all mechanical systems to ensure compliance with health and safety standards. This includes maintenance of electrical systems, HVAC systems, heating and plumbing systems, and alarm systems. The technician will also be involved in maintaining locks, doors, and controllers, ensuring that all systems are functioning properly and safely. In addition to technical skills, the Maintenance Technician will participate in ongoing safety and operational training programs, perform manual repairs such as fixing locks, painting, carpentry, and equipment repair, and conduct general upkeep procedures like landscaping and snow removal. The role requires compliance with policies regarding hazardous materials and maintaining a clean and safe work environment. The technician will also be expected to perform special assignments and projects as assigned by the Operations Manager. This position demands a high level of communication and teamwork, as the technician will work closely with individuals who have special needs and disabilities. The technician must be a self-starter, able to manage time effectively, and demonstrate a quality focus in all tasks. The role involves 100% travel within the communities served, requiring a valid Wisconsin driver's license and vehicle liability insurance. Physical demands include lifting and moving objects up to 75 pounds, accessing small areas, and working in various indoor and outdoor environments, which may include exposure to fluctuating temperatures and loud noises. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required, depending on organizational needs.

Responsibilities

  • Assess building components and repair all mechanical systems to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Perform maintenance of electrical systems, including replacing light bulbs and sockets.
  • Assist in the setup and repair of HVAC systems, including ventilation and refrigeration.
  • Maintain heating and plumbing systems to ensure proper functionality.
  • Inspect alarm systems and schedule repairs as needed.
  • Maintain and repair locks, locking mechanisms, doors, and controllers.
  • Participate in ongoing safety and operational training programs.
  • Perform manual repairs such as fixing locks, painting, carpentry, and equipment repair.
  • Comply with policies for the storage, usage, and removal of hazardous materials.
  • Conduct general upkeep procedures, including landscaping and snow removal.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Perform special assignments and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Preferred minimum of five years of maintenance and/or commercial experience.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license required.
  • Vehicle liability insurance in accordance with Agency policy.
  • Knowledge of various trades including electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.
  • Skilled in using hand and power tools and test equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose equipment problems.
  • Computer literacy is required.
  • Ability to respond to emergency situations in accordance with training received.
  • Experience maintaining or working in a CBRF setting is a plus.

Nice-to-haves

  • Pool system experience would be beneficial.
