About the position

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the troubleshooting and intermediate repair of apartment and public area HVAC equipment along with the overall upkeep of residential apartments and public areas through responsive, accurate and efficient maintenance. This will be accomplished through the performance of semi-skilled tasks that require the application of general maintenance and repair techniques, materials, tools, and equipment. The role involves performing routine and emergency repairs in residential apartments and public areas, including correcting electrical malfunctions, repairing and replacing plumbing fixtures, pipes and fittings, repairing and replacing light bulbs and fixtures, and repairing doors and locks. The technician will assist in providing initial response for malfunction of residential HVAC equipment, performing resets and simple repairs as necessary. Additionally, the technician will respond to emergency calls for system and equipment failure, completing all work orders in a timely manner while providing detailed information regarding the tasks performed along with all prescribed/pertinent equipment information. The Maintenance Technician will assist other maintenance personnel when necessary in the completion of various projects or repairs, including campus snow removal. They will also assist in maintaining proper levels of materials and supplies for the campus to ensure the timely and efficient completion of necessary tasks. The position requires the technician to work a reasonable amount of scheduled and "on-call" overtime as necessary and to perform additional duties requested by the Supervisor and the Director of Facility Services to ensure effective and efficient operation within the community. Attendance is essential to this job, and the technician must maintain dependability and punctuality as outlined in the Attendance policy.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • 1 year of experience in maintenance or a related field.
  • Ability to perform semi-skilled tasks in maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Knowledge of HVAC systems and basic electrical and plumbing repairs.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a residential maintenance environment.
  • Familiarity with safety protocols and procedures in maintenance work.
