About the position

The Maintenance Technician at Gadsden Correctional Facility is responsible for ensuring the proper functioning and maintenance of various systems within the facility. This includes performing repairs and maintenance on structures, electrical systems, plumbing, washers and dryers, as well as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. The technician must adhere to the standards set by the American Correctional Association (ACA), Management & Training Corporation (MTC), Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC), and Florida Department of Management Services (DMS). The role requires a proactive approach to maintenance, ensuring that all systems are operational and compliant with safety regulations. In this position, the technician will be tasked with diagnosing issues, recommending contracted assistance when necessary, and executing repairs on faulty or damaged light fixtures, outlets, and fuses. Additionally, the technician will perform minor construction tasks, such as repairing structural woodwork and installing window shades or security locks. The role also involves plumbing work, including the repair or replacement of fixtures and seals, as well as preparing surfaces for painting and other finishing tasks. A key aspect of the job is directing inmates assigned to the maintenance department, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and safely. The Maintenance Technician plays a crucial role in maintaining a secure and functional environment within the correctional facility, contributing to the overall mission of providing effective rehabilitation opportunities for inmates while ensuring a safe working environment for staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and repair of structures, electrical systems, and HVAC systems.
  • Repair or replace faulty or damaged light fixtures, outlets, and fuses as directed.
  • Perform minor construction and repair of structural woodwork.
  • Install window shades or coverings, security locks, etc.
  • Perform repair or replacement of plumbing fixtures, washers, seals, etc.
  • Help prepare surfaces for finishing, such as painting as directed.
  • Direct inmates assigned to the maintenance department.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical training and two (2) years of related experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • A valid driver license in the state of Florida with an acceptable driving record.
