About the position

The Maintenance Technician at MD Anderson Cancer Center is responsible for performing routine and preventative maintenance on various mechanical equipment, systems, buildings, and grounds. This role requires demonstrated sub journeyman-level work in designated crafts, impacting the functionality and safety of the facility. The technician will work under direct supervision and maintain records of materials and jobs while assisting in various maintenance tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and preventative maintenance on various equipment, buildings, and utility systems using craft trade skills.
• Maintain facility appearance, functionality, and safety.
• Install, repair, and maintain equipment such as doors and locks.
• Assist in installing, repairing, and maintaining pumps, conveyors, fans, compressors, and other special equipment.
• Assist in servicing HVAC/R and related equipment including compressors, condensers, evaporators, and air handling units.
• Requisition materials and maintain inventories.
• Replace damaged ceiling tiles and cove base.
• Adjust or replace door closers.
• Install modular furniture, bulletin boards, and pictures.
• Repair vinyl and carpeted floors.
• Layout and install suspended metal grid ceilings with air supply and exhaust grills.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of experience in one or more crafts (plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC, instrumentation).
• Skills in the practices, methods, materials, tools, and equipment of the mechanical trade.
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
