About the position

The Maintenance Technician at the Austen Riggs Center is a full-time position that requires a dedicated individual to provide responsive building and grounds maintenance while adhering to hospital safety and regulatory standards. This role is essential for ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of the Center, which includes repairing any issues as they arise to prevent further complications. The Maintenance Technician will work independently and efficiently, reporting directly to the Facilities Lead Maintenance Technician and/or the Facilities Director. This position involves direct interaction with patients, staff, and visitors, necessitating exceptional customer service skills and extensive technical knowledge. The ideal candidate for this role is a multi-talented individual who possesses strong problem-solving abilities and effective communication skills. The Maintenance Technician will support the overall maintenance of the Austen Riggs' buildings, grounds, and internal systems. Responsibilities include conducting quality assessments, scheduling repairs, maintaining inventory, and recommending preventative maintenance solutions. The technician will inspect buildings, equipment, and systems to identify safety issues and coordinate necessary repairs with patients and staff. Routine maintenance tasks will also be part of the job, including fixing structural damage, performing window, door, or wall repairs, and general maintenance tasks such as snow removal and painting. Additionally, the Maintenance Technician will provide oversight for the maintenance of various mechanical equipment, appliances, plumbing, heating units, air-conditioning, locks, wood works, phones, and other communication systems. This role is crucial for maintaining a safe and functional environment for all individuals at the Austen Riggs Center.

Responsibilities

  • Supports the overall maintenance of the Austen Riggs' buildings, grounds, and internal building systems.
  • Conducts quality assessments and schedules repairs.
  • Maintains inventory and recommends preventative maintenance solutions.
  • Inspects buildings, equipment, and systems to identify safety issues and coordinates repairs with patients and staff.
  • Performs routine maintenance around the building, such as fixing structural damage and performing window, door, or wall repairs.
  • Carries out general maintenance tasks including snow removal, painting, and office moves.
  • Provides oversight for the maintenance of mechanical equipment, appliances, plumbing, heating units, air-conditioning, locks, wood works, phones, and other communications systems.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Minimum 5 years general maintenance experience working in construction or structured maintenance setting required.
  • Proficiency in technical disciplines including plumbing, carpentry, electrical, HVAC systems, and painting.
  • Computer literacy and ability to work and understand BMS systems and maintenance management software.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team.
  • Ability to effectively manage situations with staff and/or patients, maintaining boundaries and patients' rights at all times.
  • Current driver's license with good driving record.
  • Hoisting and skid steer license required (ARC willing to provide).
