About the position

The Maintenance Toolmaker at Harley-Davidson is responsible for the development and maintenance of the preventative maintenance system for injection molding dies, fixtures, and end of arm tools. This role involves performing preventative maintenance, managing mold repairs, and providing input for the design and build of injection molding molds. The position requires proficiency in operating and inspecting equipment associated with servicing injection molding molds and coordinating necessary tools and materials for maintenance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the preventative maintenance (PM) system for injection molding dies, fixtures, and end of arm tools.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on injection molding molds, fixtures, and end of arm tools.
  • Manage mold repairs, including in-house repairs and those performed at outside tool shops.
  • Schedule, provide input, manage, and place order forms for outside mold repairs.
  • Provide input in the design and build of injection molding molds.
  • Provide service to engineers for mold and tool modifications as necessary.
  • Build new mold components as required.
  • Operate and inspect the overhead crane and other equipment associated with servicing injection molding molds.
  • Develop mold tooling standards for new and existing molds.
  • Coordinate down time of molds and tools with manufacturing.
  • Manage the stocking, ordering, and maintaining of necessary tools and components for mold maintenance and repairs.
  • Assist in justifying new mold repair equipment and tools.
  • Develop and maintain work instructions for the mold maintenance area.
  • Train PT2/Set-up Techs and other personnel in basic die cleaning and storage requirements.

Requirements

  • Experience in maintenance and repair of injection molding molds and tools.
  • Proficiency in operating overhead cranes and related equipment.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance systems and procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate and manage multiple tasks and schedules effectively.
  • Experience in developing work instructions and training personnel.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with mold design and modifications.
  • Familiarity with quality standards in mold tooling.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with engineers and manufacturing teams.
