Maintenance Worker 1 - Bronze and Marble

About the position

Forest Lawn's Bronze and Marble department in Glendale is searching for a Maintenance Worker to join the team! This position will work under direct supervision or may work individually or with a team of employees. The Maintenance Worker will assist in installing, repairing, and maintaining stone and bronze art objects, mosaics, and buildings. Responsibilities include making entombments in sarcophagi and repairing stone and concrete. Much of the work will be performed with hand tools, and as experience allows, equipment operation will be included in duties. This is an entry-level position, and candidates can expect to receive much of their training on the job.

Responsibilities

• Shape stone preparatory to setting.
• Spread mortar over stone and foundation with trowel and set stone in place by hand or with aid of crane.
• Align stone with plumbline and finish joints between stone with pointing trowel.
• Spread mortar along mortar guides to ensure joints of uniform thickness.
• Clean surface of finished wall to remove mortar.
• Install statues up to ten (10) tons in weight (usually weighing 500 to 2,000 pounds).
• Repair and refinish bronze statues using various techniques and chemicals to produce the desired finish.
• Repair natural and cast stone walkways, walls, etc.
• Repair marble floors using various methods - including synthetic resins, ceramics, portland cement and waxes.
• Clean marble statuary using chemical poultices, bleaches, and reactive agents.
• Make new parts for damaged statues using various sculpturing methods.
• Make entombments in sarcophagi.
• Assemble and place marble benches and pedestals for statuary, etc.
• Preserve marble, granite, and limestone statues using various sealers and protectants.

Requirements

• Minimum of 6 months of experience in a maintenance position.
• Valid California Driver's License.
• Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
• Must have a caring and professional demeanor and enjoy helping families at a difficult time.
• Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
• High school diploma/GED certification.
• Must be able to work on-site.

Nice-to-haves

• Some previous experience in a mortuary/cemetery position.
