About the position
The Maintenance Worker 1 role is responsible for performing a wide variety of maintenance tasks associated with the care of the cemetery grounds and facilities. This position will work under direct supervision, individually, or with a team. Duties include grounds maintenance functions such as working with hand tools and equipment operation.
Responsibilities
- General grounds clean-up and trash disposal.
- Clean and maintain storm drains.
- Repair lawn damage.
- Mow section and garden lawns.
- Trim memorial tablets.
- Replant landscapes.
- Apply landscape chemicals such as fertilizers, wetting agents, herbicides.
- Assist client families and other guests with grounds maintenance requests.
- Operate specialized equipment to move materials.
- Assist in completing interments.
- Assist in set-up and clean-up before and after special events.
- Install tents for funeral services.
Requirements
- Minimum of 6 months of experience in a maintenance position.
- Valid California Driver's License.
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs.
- Must have a caring and professional demeanor and enjoy helping families at a difficult time.
- Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
- High school diploma/GED certification.
- Must be able to work on-site.
Nice-to-haves
- Some previous experience in a mortuary/cemetery position.
