About The Position

The Maintenance Worker Apprentice program at the City of Plymouth offers hands-on training and experience necessary for a municipal maintenance worker role. Over a 24-month period, apprentices will rotate through various divisions including streets, utilities, and parks and forestry, learning to maintain and repair the city's infrastructure while providing exceptional customer service and promoting a respectful workplace culture.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Minnesota driver's license.
• Ability to obtain a MN Class A commercial driver's license (CDL) with tanker endorsement.

Nice To Haves

• Valid Class A or Class B Minnesota commercial learner permit (CLP) or CDL.
• Previous experience in a municipal maintenance position.
• Ability to operate light/heavy duty equipment.
• Ability to operate a computer or tablet and necessary programs.

Responsibilities

• Provide exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
• Participate in citywide training to strengthen competencies in communication, leadership, decision making, and problem solving.
• Perform maintenance and repair to roadways including sweeping, asphalt repair, and trash removal in the Streets Division.
• Install and maintain traffic signs and signals.
• Conduct seasonal snow removal and ice control functions.
• Assist in the maintenance and repair of municipal sewer, water, and drainage systems in the Utilities Division.
• Perform preventive maintenance to the water distribution system and sanitary sewer system.
• Conduct inspections and repairs of park facilities and amenities in the Park & Forestry Division.
• Perform horticulture maintenance, turf maintenance, and tree maintenance.
