About the position

Lunalilo Home is seeking a dedicated and skilled Maintenance Worker to join our team in Honolulu, HI. This full-time position is essential for maintaining the quality and safety of our facilities, ensuring that our elders receive the compassionate care they deserve. The Utility Worker (Maintenance) will be cross-trained and assigned to various departments as needed, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment. The primary focus of this role is to perform maintenance tasks that include responding to repair requests, assisting with preventative maintenance scheduling, and ensuring that all building systems are functioning properly. The Maintenance Worker will be responsible for a variety of routine tasks such as cleaning air conditioners, light painting, general cleaning, trash removal, and maintaining the exterior of the property. This includes re-striping and repairing parking lots, cleaning carpets, changing bulbs, and caring for household plants. The worker will also conduct daily rounds to check plumbing and electrical systems, ensuring that all lights, emergency lights, door buzzers, locks, and other fixtures are in good working order. In addition, the Maintenance Worker will respond to both routine and emergency maintenance requests, reporting any safety hazards to the appropriate personnel. In terms of machinery and appliances, the Maintenance Worker will perform preventative maintenance on all equipment, including completing monthly emergency generator tests and maintaining accurate logs of work performed. The role also involves assisting with fire prevention measures, including planning and conducting fire drills, and ensuring compliance with Lunalilo Home's fire evacuation procedures. The Maintenance Worker will also play a key role in disaster preparedness, ensuring that survival kits are complete and that the facility is ready for any emergencies. The position also includes responsibilities for grounds maintenance, such as mowing, edging, weeding, and caring for the landscaping across the five acres of property. The Maintenance Worker will ensure that the irrigation system is functioning correctly and will perform minor automotive maintenance on service vehicles. This role requires a proactive approach to maintenance and a commitment to creating a safe and welcoming environment for our residents and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs as requested.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance scheduling.
  • Clean air conditioners, perform light painting, and general cleaning.
  • Remove trash and exterior debris, including leaves.
  • Re-strip and repair parking lots, clean carpets, and change bulbs.
  • Check plumbing and electrical systems for proper functioning.
  • Conduct daily rounds to respond to maintenance requests and report hazards.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on machinery and appliances.
  • Complete monthly emergency generator tests and maintain logs.
  • Assist with fire drills and follow evacuation procedures.
  • Prepare for disasters by ensuring survival kits are complete and facilities are secure.
  • Maintain the grounds, including mowing, edging, and weeding.
  • Perform minor automotive maintenance on service vehicles.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to lift items up to 70 pounds.
  • Experience in mechanical, maintenance, or lawn maintenance (1 year preferred).
  • Annual physical/infection/transmittable disease clearance, TB clearance certificate.
  • Valid driver's license and driving record, if applicable.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with plumbing and carpentry tools.
