About The Position

The Maintenance Worker I - Streets position is a permanent full-time role within the Streets & Traffic Engineering Division of the Public Works Department. The primary responsibility is to maintain, construct, and repair city streets, sidewalks, catch basins, and storm drains, as well as to remove snow and leaves from roadways. This role requires working under immediate direction and involves various physical tasks related to street maintenance.

Requirements

• High school education or G.E.D.
• Four to six months of related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Satisfactory driving record.
• Valid State of Iowa commercial driver's license instruction permit upon first day in position.
• Valid State of Iowa Class A commercial driver's license with air brake and tank endorsements within 6 months of hire.
• Meet federal drug testing requirements.
• Must be 18 years of age.
• Must pass a criminal background check.
• Must live within 25 miles of Iowa City, Iowa within one year of appointment.

Nice To Haves

• High school education or G.E.D. and seven to twelve months of related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair city streets and sidewalks.
