About the position

The Maintenance Worker II at Rockhurst High School is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks within the school facilities. This role involves working under the supervision of the Director of Facilities Management and Facilities Supervisor to ensure the upkeep of the school's buildings, including electrical, carpentry, and plumbing work. The position requires a hands-on approach to maintain a safe and functional environment for students and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Repair or alter buildings, including wood and steel frame, brick, block wall, and cast concrete structures based on plans, sketches, or instructions.
  • Repair floors, walls, ceilings, doors, furniture, fixtures, and stairs, including finishing drywall and painting.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace locks, handles, blinds, brackets, tiles, linoleum, and flooring.
  • Build and install furniture, cabinets, partitions, and other fixtures where feasible.
  • Work with concrete, including setting and pouring forms and finishing flatwork.
  • Operate power equipment such as saws, jointers, lathes, sanders, and planers; maintain and repair such equipment.
  • Install, test, and repair motors, electrical fixtures, light fixtures, and fans.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on electrical equipment.
  • Carry out all plumbing duties, including repairing and replacing facility sinks, toilets, water lines, and sewer lines.
  • Supervise work-grant students and clean classrooms, hallways, chalkboards, and cafeteria areas.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and monthly inspections as required.
  • Carry out any other duties as reasonably required by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • General knowledge of equipment and tools used in maintaining buildings and grounds, including carpentry, plumbing, and electricity.
  • Mechanically inclined with the ability to perform a variety of maintenance duties.
  • Good physical health and ability to perform duties with minimal help.
  • Ability to consistently stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb when performing tasks.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and handle tools and equipment effectively.
  • Ability to complete tasks while using a ladder.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively in both forms.
  • Ability to read drawings and blueprints.
  • Knowledge and ability to use computers and related technology efficiently.
  • Ability to work with high school-aged young men.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
