About the position

The Maintenance Worker III position at Humboldt County involves performing a variety of standard building and facility maintenance tasks, as well as minor repair duties. This role requires independent work under general supervision and includes responsibilities such as leading and training staff, managing projects, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations. The position also involves interacting with the public and may require driving to transport personnel and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides lead direction, training, and work reviews of assigned staff and outside contractors.
  • Assists the Maintenance Operations Supervisor in developing, justifying, and administering the budget for the Building Services Division.
  • Participates in the design, layout, and planning of remodeling, repair, or modification projects affecting County buildings and facilities.
  • Maintains County Energy Management Control System and monitors facility temperatures.
  • Estimates materials, tools, and equipment needed for work assignments and prepares cost estimates for jobs.
  • Performs skilled and semi-skilled craft work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and related facility systems.
  • Inspects and troubleshoots mechanical/electrical equipment and performs necessary repairs.
  • Repairs and installs doors, locks, and security devices, and performs carpentry work.
  • Maintains and services a variety of test equipment and hand and power tools.
  • Maintains records of work performed and materials used.

Requirements

  • Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • 4 years of skilled experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of building operating systems and facilities.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license or alternate means of travel.
  • Ability to pass a Sheriff's Office grade background check.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Training certification within 15 days of employment.
  • Forklift certification.
