About the position

The Maintenance Worker III position in Winnemucca, NV, is a lead role within the Maintenance Worker series, requiring a variety of standard building and facility maintenance tasks, as well as minor repair duties in buildings, facilities, and adjacent grounds. Under general supervision, the incumbent will interact with the public, providing standard information and assistance. The role involves driving a truck or other vehicle to transport personnel and/or equipment as needed. Work assignments will vary based on the season and specific projects assigned, and the employee may be required to perform Maintenance Worker I or II duties as necessary. The position also requires being on call when scheduled to perform job duties. This role is distinguished from the Maintenance Worker II class by the level of independence in performing tasks, the variety of tools and techniques used, and the complexity of duties performed. At this level, incumbents may act as job or project leaders for Maintenance Worker I and II staff, providing oversight and direction to volunteers, community service workers, or temporary/seasonal employees as required. The position operates under general supervision, with assignments governed by outlined work methods and objectives, while the responsibility for achieving these objectives rests with a superior. The Maintenance Worker III will be responsible for leading and training assigned staff and outside contractors, providing input for performance evaluations, participating in the hiring process, and organizing and assigning work. The role also involves assisting the Maintenance Operations Supervisor in budget development and administration, advising on facility-related activities, and providing technical advice on facility projects. The incumbent will participate in the design and planning of remodeling and repair projects, maintain the County Energy Management Control System, estimate materials and tools needed for assignments, and perform skilled craft work in various maintenance areas. Regular inspections of mechanical and electrical equipment will be required, along with repairs and maintenance of facilities, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and effective service delivery to the public.

Responsibilities

  • Provides lead direction, training, and work reviews of assigned staff and outside contractors.
  • Assists the Maintenance Operations Supervisor in developing, justifying, and administering the budget for the Building Services Division.
  • Participates in the design, layout, and planning of remodeling, repair, or modification projects affecting County buildings and facilities.
  • Maintains County Energy Management Control System; sets and monitors facility temperatures.
  • Estimates materials, tools, and equipment needed for work assignments; orders and picks up materials and supplies from vendors.
  • Performs skilled and semi-skilled craft work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and related facility systems.
  • Inspects and maintains mechanical/electrical equipment; troubleshoots problems and repairs as required.
  • Repairs walls, patches, and paints; repairs roofs and schedules for replacement.
  • Supervises contracts and work of vendors and subcontractors; inspects work and approves payment.
  • Maintains records of work performed and materials used.

Requirements

  • Possession of a valid driver's license or alternate means of travel.
  • Ability to pass a Sheriff's Office grade background check.
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Training certification within 15 days of employment.
  • Forklift certification.
  • High school diploma or equivalent and 4 years of skilled experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of building operating systems and facilities.
