About the position

The Maintenance Worker - Streets and Surface Water position at the City of Kenmore is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks within the Public Works Department. This role involves both skilled and unskilled labor, focusing on street maintenance, surface water management, and landscape upkeep. The worker will utilize various tools and equipment to ensure the safety and functionality of city infrastructure, while also responding to emergencies and maintaining high standards of service to the community.

Responsibilities

  • Perform unskilled, semi-skilled, and skilled tasks including plumbing, electrical, mechanical, carpentry, painting, and concrete work.
  • Conduct routine maintenance of city infrastructure including streets, surface water, parks, grounds, and facilities.
  • Maintain landscaping, mow lawns, trim hedges, and clear debris.
  • Manage irrigation systems including programming, startup, winterizing, maintenance, and repair.
  • Use power and hand tools to maintain, repair, and install street signs, sidewalks, and drainage systems.
  • Operate various equipment such as power mowers, blowers, and sweepers.
  • Inspect and maintain street and drainage equipment for safety.
  • Complete daily logs, timesheets, and reports as required.
  • Respond to emergencies as directed and perform general labor tasks.
  • Monitor maintenance contracts for compliance with city standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience as a Public Works maintenance worker or related field.
  • Knowledge of street maintenance, surface water maintenance, and landscape maintenance.
  • Ability to operate power tools and light-duty vehicles.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License and a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) CLASS B within six months of employment.
  • First Aid/CPR certification required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Office software.
  • Knowledge of applicable State and Federal laws and regulations.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals and blueprints.
