About the position
The City of Katy is seeking a Maintenance Worker for the Streets Department to perform general maintenance, landscaping, and repair work for assigned buildings and park areas. This role involves maintaining inventory of janitorial supplies and ensuring the upkeep of public spaces, contributing to the overall functionality and aesthetics of the city environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform various preventative maintenance activities including checking and repairing lighting, irrigation systems, and equipment.
- Trim trees and bushes, clean gutters, mow and edge grass, apply fertilizer and mulch, spray weeds, and collect trash.
- Complete minor plumbing repairs, power wash assigned areas, clean and sanitize restrooms, and paint as needed.
- Maintain an inventory of paper products and janitorial supplies, ordering supplies as necessary.
- Assist with the set-up of events, including moving furniture, setting up tents, and hanging decorations.
- Provide services during natural or manmade disasters and/or catastrophic events as part of critical personnel duties.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- One (1) year of general maintenance experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Knowledge of department policies and procedures, landscape irrigation systems, basic plumbing, electrical, and A/C maintenance, and safety policies.
Nice-to-haves
- Understanding of landscape irrigation systems, including repair, service, and/or installation.
