About the position
The Maintenance Worker (Trails) position at Redwood National Park involves maintaining and repairing trails to ensure they meet safety and accessibility standards. The role includes a variety of physical tasks such as cleaning drainage systems, clearing vegetation, and performing basic masonry and carpentry work. This is a temporary full-time position expected to last at least 13 months, with the possibility of extension based on regulations.
Responsibilities
- Maintain trails by cleaning water bars, culverts, and maintaining drainages.
- Remove excess rock or debris on tread and clear brush and encroaching vegetation along trails.
- Assist or lead trail crews on bridge building, step construction, and other trail projects.
- Remove windfalls and utilize equipment for moving heavy objects.
- Construct or repair bridges, ramps, and other structures.
- Perform basic masonry and carpentry work.
- Service and repair trail equipment such as chainsaws and mowers.
Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
- Ability to interpret instructions and specifications, including blueprints.
- Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair.
- Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
- Knowledge of materials and technical practices.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience in trail maintenance or similar outdoor work.
- Familiarity with safety regulations in outdoor environments.
