About the position

This position involves performing a variety of maintenance and construction tasks, including carpentry, landscaping, custodial duties, and equipment operation. The role requires the use of hand and power tools to install, repair, and maintain structures and facilities, ensuring safety and compliance with regulations. The incumbent will also assist in trail construction and maintenance, utilizing both native and imported materials, and may be involved in blasting operations under supervision. This is a temporary position with a focus on hands-on work in various environments.

Responsibilities

  • Measures and cuts materials to required lengths and dimensions.
  • Installs structural and trim items using nailing, bolting, mortising, doweling, and gluing techniques.
  • Uses a variety of common hand and power tools for assembly and fastening procedures.
  • Prepares surfaces and applies prime and finish coats to surfaces.
  • Checks processed items for flaws and applies necessary preservatives.
  • Assists with repairs to facilities and grounds.
  • Performs ground maintenance and landscaping duties such as mowing and snow removal.
  • Operates motor vehicles for assigned duties and performs vehicle maintenance.
  • Cleans working areas and cares for tools and equipment after assignments.
  • Performs custodial duties in office spaces and public restrooms, including trash removal and supply replacement.
  • Constructs and maintains various types of trails and assists in major engineered features construction.
  • Uses and maintains primitive hand tools and a variety of power tools for construction tasks.
  • Assists in rigging and high lines for transporting heavy materials over rugged terrain.
  • Participates in blasting operations under the direction of the Blaster in Charge.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Ability to perform the work of the position without more than normal supervision.
  • Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair.
  • Technical practices related to the job.
  • Ability to interpret instructions and specifications, including blueprint reading.
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment effectively.
  • Knowledge of materials used in construction and maintenance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with trail construction and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations related to construction and maintenance work.
