About The Position

The Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing work activities utilizing both manual labor and motorized equipment in the construction, maintenance, and repair of roads, traffic control devices, and drainage systems. This role involves maintaining County waterways and storm water control facilities. The incumbent operates moderately complex vehicles and equipment, participates in manual labor duties, and leads work crew activities. Responsibilities include installing drainage pipes, erosion control materials, and traffic control devices, as well as guiding heavy equipment operators. The position requires working under general supervision and reporting to a designated maintenance supervisor.

Requirements

  • Completion of secondary education or equivalent.
  • Proficiency in written and oral communications.
  • Basic mathematical skills.
  • Experience in operating motorized equipment, including dump trucks.
  • Valid State of Ohio Class B Commercial Drivers License with Tanker endorsement.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of grading equipment operation.
  • Experience with pavement marking application and sign installation.
  • Familiarity with the Ohio Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices.

Responsibilities

  • Installs different types and sizes of drainage pipe for storm water management.
  • Installs various forms and types of erosion control material.
  • Guides heavy equipment operators in grading and ditching work.
  • Performs grade checking using levels and laser equipment.
  • Cuts, trims, clears, and chips trees and brush from ditch right-of-way.
  • Transports materials in dump trucks and tows trailers.
  • Operates pumps for water removal and compactors for back filling.
  • Operates a variety of light and heavy trucks for transportation.
  • Operates salt spreader and heavy trucks for snow and ice control.
  • Participates in and/or leads work crew activity when not operating equipment.
  • Performs minor maintenance and repair on pavement marking equipment.
  • Keeps records and prepares reports of work performed.

Benefits

  • Hourly rate range: $26.41-$27.80.
  • Overtime may be required.
