About the position
The position involves performing maintenance and construction work on street and drainage-related projects, including litter removal, mowing, and landscape maintenance along public properties. The employee will work under general supervision, either independently or in teams, and may be required to operate various types of equipment and tools. Responsibilities include maintaining the City's streets, curbs, sidewalks, and applying asphalt, pouring concrete, and performing landscaping duties. The role may also involve assisting in surveying and working in the City's sign shop. The employee is expected to exercise independent judgment and initiative in completing work assignments and will report to an assigned Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and construction work on street and drainage-related projects.
- Conduct litter/debris removal and landscape maintenance along public properties.
- Maintain the City's streets, curbs, and sidewalks.
- Apply tac asphalt and pour/form concrete.
- Operate hand and power tools, including forklifts and hand tampers.
- Assist in surveying using level and checking established grade lines.
- Complete daily work orders and input into the online system.
- Direct traffic around construction sites and ensure proper signage is displayed.
- Respond to citizen and staff complaints and concerns.
- Maintain logs and records of maintenance and repair work performed.
Requirements
- Graduation from high school.
- Minimum of one (1) year of experience in construction work.
- Valid Florida Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to use hand tools and read simple blueprints and schematics.
- Trade skills in landscaping, street construction, drainage work, and irrigation systems.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience operating motorized heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of traffic operations and sign installation.
- Ability to perform manual labor functions related to roadway and drainage projects.
