About the position

The Maintenance Worker position at the Circuit Court of Jackson County, Missouri, is a full-time role focused on maintaining the physical integrity of the facility and its grounds. The worker will be responsible for a variety of tasks that include maintaining lawns, trees, shrubs, driveways, and sidewalks, as well as assisting with the installation, repair, and maintenance of physical structures, equipment, plumbing, and electrical systems. The position requires a hands-on approach to ensure that all areas of the facility are safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing. The role is divided into several key responsibilities, with approximately 20% of the time dedicated to installing and repairing components of physical structures. This includes maintaining electrical wiring, fixtures, and systems, as well as plumbing fixtures such as sinks and toilets. The worker will also be responsible for maintaining heating and cooling systems through operational checks and minor repairs. Another significant portion of the job, accounting for 15% of the time, involves installing and troubleshooting phone systems and running cabling for computer networks. The worker will carry a pager to respond to issues as they arise, ensuring that communication systems are operational. The majority of the role, approximately 60%, focuses on maintaining the grounds and performing routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment. This includes mowing lawns, trimming shrubbery, clearing snow and ice, and performing minor repairs on vehicles and appliances. The worker will also be responsible for ensuring that outdoor areas are safe and prepared for various weather conditions. The Maintenance Worker will not have any direct reports and will work under the general supervision of a Team Leader. The work is reviewed based on the quality and quantity of tasks completed, and the worker will interact with all levels of Court staff as well as external service contractors and supply vendors. The position requires a valid driver’s license and proof of auto liability insurance, along with the ability to pass various background checks and drug testing. On-the-job training will be provided for specialized skills such as plumbing, carpentry, and electrical work.

Responsibilities

  • Install and repair components of physical structures.
  • Maintain physical structures by performing installation and repair of electrical wiring, fixtures, and systems.
  • Maintain heating and cooling systems by operation checks and minor repair/maintenance.
  • Install phones, run cable, program, troubleshoot, and repair phone connectivity/equipment issues.
  • Run cabling and wires for computer network, and connect computers to the network.
  • Perform routine maintenance of and minor repairs on vehicles, lawn tractors, and mowers.
  • Mow lawn, trim shrubbery and weeds, and remove or clear snow and ice.
  • Mix and pour concrete to repair walkways or other areas.
  • Lift, move, and transport furniture, equipment, building and construction materials, and other items.
  • Ensure pathways, stairs, and outdoor structures are safe.
  • Prepare outdoor areas for various weather conditions.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in grounds keeping is required.
  • One year directly related work experience in plumbing, electrical, and carpentry work is preferred.
  • Must have and provide proof of a valid driver’s license from state of residence.
  • Must have and provide proof of having auto liability insurance, and a properly licensed, reliable vehicle.
  • Must submit to and pass sex offender registry check, and MO/KS child abuse & neglect checks.
  • Must submit to and pass criminal background check as prescribed by the Court.
