About the position

The Maintenance Working Foreman at Westfield State University is responsible for overseeing and participating in the maintenance and repair of university buildings and related structures. This role includes supervising maintenance staff, ensuring compliance with work standards, and managing emergency maintenance needs. The foreman plays a crucial role in maintaining the university's facilities and ensuring a safe and functional environment for students and staff.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees and participates in the upkeep, maintenance, and repair of university buildings and related structures.
  • Supervises Maintainer III's, II's, and I's, providing guidance and support during their shifts.
  • Evaluates workmanship and ensures compliance with established work standards.
  • Performs preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and tools.
  • Inspects equipment and tools for wear and tear, making repairs as needed.
  • Maintains records of work progress, materials, and equipment used.
  • Responds to campus-related emergencies during normal working hours.
  • Oversees snow removal and ice control work, as well as grounds keeping tasks.
  • Prepares, assigns, and performs work orders through the campus SchoolDude program.

Requirements

  • At least two years of full-time or equivalent part-time experience in building maintenance, repair, or construction.
  • Ability to supervise and plan work according to job requirements and available resources.
  • Knowledge of equipment and materials used in building maintenance and repair work.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures in building maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics.
  • Skill in using small hand tools and hand-held power tools.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift and carry heavy objects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a supervisory role within a maintenance or facilities environment.
  • Familiarity with campus facilities management software.
