About the position

The Major Gifts Officer for the Midwest Region at the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum is responsible for soliciting and developing fundraising programs to support the Museum's mission. This role involves engaging with current and prospective donors, organizing fundraising events, and cultivating relationships within the Chicago area to generate financial support for the Museum's operations and programs. The position is hybrid, allowing for both in-office and remote work, and is focused on community outreach and donor engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, cultivate, and solicit current and prospective donors in the Chicago area for annual gifts, multi-year commitments, and planned gifts.
  • Develop and implement fundraising events and activities, including the annual Chicago Luncheon fundraiser and personal solicitations.
  • Lead the Chicago Next Generation initiative, including cultivation and stewardship of donors and execution of fundraisers.
  • Engage in ongoing stewardship of a strong cadre of Chicago leaders and enhance programs for various donor cohorts.
  • Arrange for donor visits to the Museum and meetings with appropriate staff.
  • Monitor and evaluate fundraising efforts to meet objectives.

Requirements

  • 7 - 10 years of experience in soliciting donations and managing donor relationships.
  • Proven track record in individual face-to-face fundraising, soliciting six-figure gifts or higher.
  • Experience with foundation and corporate giving is desired.
  • Experience managing fundraising events and post-event follow-up.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong leadership and analytical skills; self-motivated and self-reliant.
  • Proficient in Excel, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and database tools.
  • Ability to navigate a CRM system and access donor information independently.
  • Strong project management skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and Holocaust history.
  • Four-year college degree; advanced degree desirable.
  • Proven success in fundraising and client acquisition, reaching ambitious goals.
  • Leadership skills and success in partnering with stakeholders.
  • Comfort in a creative, problem-solving, results-oriented environment.
