About the position

The Major Gifts Officer at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) plays a crucial role in the NOVA Educational Foundation team, focusing on developing and implementing strategic fundraising initiatives. This position is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts from individual and corporate donors, ensuring a robust donor pipeline to support the College's fundraising priorities and programmatic initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Cultivate and solicit major gifts from a portfolio of 100+ individual and corporate donors with giving capacities of $25,000+.
• Develop and implement innovative fundraising strategies to expand funding for the College's strategic priorities.
• Monitor progress toward fundraising goals and manage the movement of prospects through identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
• Establish and expand corporate and foundation partnerships.
• Plan and coordinate stewardship events recognizing donors.
• Maintain accurate reports of annual, leadership, and major gift activities.
• Stay informed about NOVA's programs, strategic priorities, and financial organization.

Requirements

• Experience in fundraising, preferably in higher education or non-profit administration.
• Project management experience and ability to work on multiple projects.
• Experience in using digital and social media for enhancing messaging and building donor affinity.
• Ability to articulate a persuasive case for support and develop cultivation strategies.
• Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with effective presentation abilities.
• Knowledge of current fundraising practices, especially in complex higher education settings.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in advancement, data management, and stewardship programs.
• Familiarity with donor management software like Donor Perfect.
• Strong Internet research skills.
