About the position

The Major Gifts Officer (MGO) at the Rescue Mission Alliance (RMA) is responsible for developing long-term relationships with major donors to raise funds that support the organization's goals and ministries. This full-time, exempt position involves identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and acquiring major gift opportunities while managing an assigned donor caseload. The MGO plays a crucial role in the development team, contributing to strategies and policies that enhance donor engagement and fundraising success.

Responsibilities

  • Establish professional, caring relationships built on truth, respect, encouragement, and trust.
  • Work with the development team to establish strategies, budget, policies, and priorities.
  • Advise the Development VP on major donor development matters.
  • Create and implement major gift strategies with the VP and Grants Officer.
  • Develop strategic funding requests for high-net worth individuals.
  • Lead the solicitation and closing of major gifts.
  • Manage the relationship process for individual major donors, including prospect solicitation and briefings.
  • Plan and implement tours for funding campaigns for individual major donors.
  • Execute major gift materials with the marketing team, including proposals and stewardship materials.
  • Monitor activity to achieve major gift revenue goals and assist with donor recognition lists.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of fundraising experience.
  • Demonstrated success in nonprofit organizations and closing major gifts.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Effective storytelling and listening skills.
  • Good interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
