About the position

The Major Gifts Officer at Food Bank for the Heartland is responsible for raising significant funds through major gifts and leadership annual giving, focusing on donations of $10,000 and above. This role involves identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a diverse portfolio of prospects and donors, contributing to the Food Bank's mission and capital projects. The Major Gifts Officer collaborates with the development team to implement effective donor strategies and build a robust prospect pipeline.

Responsibilities

  • Qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of 125+ major gift & annual leadership prospects.
  • Create, execute, and track the moves management strategy for all major donors in assigned donor portfolio.
  • Focus on raising annual operating funds, programmatic funds, capital funds, and estate gifts.
  • Build relationships with assigned donors through personal visits and interactions.
  • Participate in prospect management initiatives to deepen individual portfolios and build an overall donor pipeline.
  • Capture new information for entry into the donor database regarding donor's interests and capacity for giving.
  • Contribute to the design and focus of the annual development plan and budget.
  • Support the planning and implementation of the donor stewardship program.
  • Collaborate on and attend Food Bank special donor events and marketing events.
  • Conduct tours of the Food Bank for prospective donors and ensure follow-up with participants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in successful fundraising.
  • Experience in soliciting and closing major gifts and/or leadership annual gifts.
  • Demonstrated experience with donor relations and stewardship activities.
  • Familiarity with using a donor database or CRM such as Raiser's Edge or Salesforce.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice-to-haves

  • Fundraising certificate or CFRE preferred.
  • Experience with customer relations and customer service skills.
