About the position

The Major Gifts Officer at the Senator John Heinz History Center is a pivotal role within the Advancement team, responsible for implementing strategies to achieve financial goals related to general operations, special projects, capital needs, and endowment. This position involves managing a portfolio of major gift prospects, enhancing relationships with current donors, and coordinating planned giving efforts. The Major Gifts Officer will conduct donor research and cultivate relationships with potential donors while adhering to best practices in fundraising and maintaining confidentiality regarding sensitive information.

Responsibilities

• Manage a portfolio of major gifts prospects and enhance relationships with current donors.
• Coordinate planned giving efforts in collaboration with the Executive Vice President.
• Create targeted appeals related to specific mission-related programs and initiatives.
• Conduct prospective donor research to identify new donor prospects.
• Develop and execute initiatives and strategies for major individual gifts and planned giving programs.
• Ensure timely and appropriate stewardship of donors and prospects to enhance their connection with the History Center.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in the not-for-profit sector.
• 5 or more years of experience in fundraising or related fields.
• Superior customer service and relationship building skills.
• Strong writing skills for effective communication.
• Research skills to identify new donor prospects.
• Understanding of annual departmental revenue goals and budgeting.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in a museum, cultural institution, educational, or non-profit environment with operating budgets over $10 million.
